Follow up: What makes a blog interesting?

by Flossie on Dec.20, 2007, under Random

Having spent much time researching and collating results from said research, I have found the winning formula!

It’s…lotsa teenage angst and humorous pictures of cats.

Unfortunately I’m not a teenager and I don’t like cats.

This obviously dooms my blog to be read only by people with an interest in deviant psychological behaviour and friends who want to chronicle my descent into more interesting depths of the aforementioned deviant psychological behaviour.

So, in a move entirely motivated by an attempt to grab greater viewer figures for The Blog (yes, I’ve capitalised it, it makes it more likely to be updated with the increase in significance) I give you the cat picture of the day:

That’s right, not just one cat, but a multitude thereof! Am I not shameless in my attempts to popularise myself?

A small postscript to this post:

The next time Firefox’s built in spell-checker tells me that using a “z” instead of an “s” in the ending “ise” is correct will be the time I finally realise (yup, notice the “ise” on the end of that bad-boy!) my potential as a serial killer of American software developers.

What makes a blog interesting?

by Flossie on Dec.19, 2007, under Random

This has become a focus of mine since I started this paltry attempt at blogdom. It’s mainly a personal thing (”Why would anyone waste precious minutes of their life reading the cynical outpourings of a self-confessed sociopath”) rather than a quest for a greater truth (cue the inevitable selling of movie rights to George Lucas.)

So why should you read this drivel? Do I have the answer you’re looking for? Unlikely. Will this blog change your life? Nope. Will you laugh? Who knows…people have been known to laugh in my presence, though whether this is due to my winning sense of humour or social awkwardness/physical deformities I’m none the wiser.

So anyway, I quit my job.

It wasn’t a good job, a fun job, even a rewarding job.

It paid well, which allowed to me to afford enough alcohol to deal with the misery occasioned by working my job…

I have a pretty good chance of landing a new job immediately (salacious inside information from my inside source at the company that is arranging my second interview). So hopefully my time in the land of the unemployed will be brief at best. And at least this prospective job would get me away from dealing with ignorant, imbecilic, drunken fools hitting me with inanimate objects, and into the world of ignorant, imbecilic, drunken fools hitting inanimate objects (nowadays known as I.T., I guess the acronym for the other name isn’t as catchy…)

So no more the life of a pub manager for me, from here on in I will fulfill the potential geekdom in me!

Guess it’s time to get into hentai and Naruto…

This is how the world should be

My favourite game reviewer has reviewed one of my favourite series.

If you haven’t enjoyed the Autralian/British humour of Yahtzee yet then you really need to get yourself over to Zero Punctuation and fall in love with this god-amongst-men.

The legacy begins…

by Flossie on Dec.12, 2007, under Random

So, finally I make a blog. “Why?” I hear you cry, and for the life of me I can come up with no reason other than I’m a bit bored and thought I’d give it a whirl.

I’ve held out against the MySpace, LiveJournal and bebo mania for this long (and still continue to hold out against those 3, amongst others) due to the fact that if I really want to meet people I have a nice warm pub just down the road where I won’t get 100 people wandering up to me and telling me that they’ve added me to their friends, so maybe I’d now like to come see their sub-par emo band some time? Plus it has a pool table and serves beer, which as far as I’m aware no social networking site yet invented has managed to integrate successfully.

When they do, maybe I’ll reconsider my stance on the scene…
